Solicitor (Employment)

Salary: £32,094 - £44,964

Working Hours: Full Time, Hours per week - 37

Appointment Type: Fixed Term

Legal Services, County Hall, Glenfield, Leicestershire, LE3 8RA

Reference: CE0200

There is a full time post (37 Hours per week) based in Legal Services, County Hall, Glenfield, Leicestershire. The present post is part of a team that supports the County Council's HR and Education functions.

This is an ideal time to join Legal Services as it is in process of a re-structure which will see this post located in a newly created Education, Employment and Traded Services Team. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to help the new team rapidly establish itself in supporting the County Council's desire to embrace a more Commercially focused approach.

Admitted as a Solicitor/Barrister entitled to practice or Chartered Legal Executive, the successful applicant must be commercially focused and be competent in handling a wide range of often complex employment law matters that face a large public sector employer. An ability to undertake advocacy is required, and the postholder must be prepared to deal with education work. You will be expected to provide timely, accurate legal advice to council officers, including qualified HR practitioners, elected members, and partner organisations including academies and schools as appropriate.

In addition to up to date employment knowledge and experience (and also preferably in Education Law) you must have excellent written and oral skills, be competent with drafting and negotiation, able to work to tight deadlines and rapidly establish good working relationships of trust and confidence with professional clients by providing customer focused solutions. Whilst responsible for your own cases, the ability to work colloratively and flexibly as part of a team is essential.
