Leeds City Council is looking to recruit a full time permanent principal legal officer.

The post holder will be required to undertake a substantial personal caseload (largely non-contentious) of complex legal professional work in the commercial property team with a focus on complex regeneration projects and secured lending, and to advise as required on state aid. The post holder will be expected to have this area of work as a focus but also to provide support on at least one other area of law as required, and any other local government legal matters and /or matters dealt with by Legal Services.

The successful candidate will be a solicitor or barrister entitled to hold a practising certificate or FILEX who will work in a lively and busy team of lawyers involved in a stimulating, challenging and rewarding environment. We are looking for a candidate who is able to work closely with council colleagues and third parties to find pragmatic solutions to related issues; provide advice to the council; and attend committee and board meetings.

It is also essential that the successful candidate has good interpersonal skills, is able to prioritise their own workload and work to tight deadlines. They must be able to work as part of a team and be flexible, enthusiastic and committed.
