A number of exciting and unique opportunities have arisen on a restructure of the legal services at the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.

The Authority was established in March 2017 as a result of powers being devolved to it by Central Government most particularly in regard to securing major developments and improvements in respect of Transport, Housing, Education and Skills across the region with a vision to make Cambridgeshire and Peterborough the leading place in the world to learn, live and work.

The Authority is now establishing its permanent legal service and is looking for three exceptional lawyers to undertake the principal legal work areas for the Authority. We are looking for lawyers who are creative thinkers and exceptional communicators with energy, flair and resilience as well as displaying acute political awareness, highly motivated and collaborative in approach.  The roles on offer are as follows:-

Legal Counsel and Monitoring Officer

Responsible for the management and overall provision of effective and timely legal services to the Authority and its Directorates including managing the legal team and undertaking a caseload of corporate legal work as well as fulfilling the role of Monitoring Officer responsible for ensuring good governance of the Authority. The Legal Counsel will also be responsible for legal support and advice to the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority Board including attending meetings of the Board. This post will attract a 20% special responsibility allowance.

Responsible for the provision of legal advice to the Directorates in respect of Transport, Housing, Education and Skills including advice on and drafting of contracts.

It is envisaged that one of the posts will also fulfil the duty of Deputy Monitoring Officer to cover occasions when the Monitoring Officer is absent and take overall responsibility for the delivery of the Assurance Framework of the Authority. This element will attract a 10% special responsibility allowance. Both posts will also carry responsibility to advise and support the Committees of the Authority including attendance at meetings.

The successful candidates will not only be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of providing legal advice in the public sector but will also be able to demonstrate a high degree of commercial awareness.
