Based in BLM’s Manchester office, the Legal Counsel supports the General Counsel in the providing of internal legal advice in relation to contractual matters across all areas of the firm.

We are looking for a Solicitor or Associates who will be involved with contract preparation and review across all Business Streams including supporting on RFPs for tenders and future business, contracts for legal services with clients, NDAs and contracts with external suppliers including IT, consultants, and facility and corporate services.

An ability to work to tight deadlines and to give sound commercial advice to the Managing Partner and Operations Board Members (as well as other stakeholders from time to time)  will be required.

Experience in drafting and reviewing various types of contract will be essential but there will be no need to have advised solely in relation to legal sector contractual arrangements.

Particular areas of experience and knowledge will be in connection with the provision of all types of professional services, data security, confidentiality agreements, consultancy agreements, and implementation and licensing of analytics and AI projects. This is not an exhaustive list and other areas of expertise on contract drafting and review will be beneficial.

We would like to talk to qualified solicitors with experience of the types of work described above. The role is not exclusive to in-house solicitors and will be of interest to solicitors looking to move away from fee-earning into the different and rewarding challenges of in-house work.

The post-holder will need to be able to communicate with senior individuals in the organisation and to obtain instructions and provide advice as and when required. A methodical and skillful legal mind is a prerequisite, as are good communication skills and organisation. An ability to find innovative solutions to contractual problems and the organisational challenges of advising on the contractual requirements of different business areas of a law firm based originally on global risk and insurance work but which is rapidly expanding to into commercial and business advisory services is essential.

Knowledge or experience in LLP or a professional services background may assist but is not essential.

The successful candidate will be excited by the opportunity to work within a growing General Counsel department with clear career progression pathways.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, with the opportunity for development of the role and career progression.

Candidates who seek agile and/or flexible working are welcomed, (and expected!).
