THE ORGANISATION
An enterprising university seeking to enhance its reputation through student success, real world impact and being the chosen partner for change.
THE ROLE
A role has arisen within Governance & Legal Services for a Head of Legal to work on a 3 day week job share basis.
This is an important strategic position and will involve advising the university's executive and senior managers on all matters of legal significance.
The post-holder will provide in-house legal support and manage the relationships and arrangements with external lawyers where specific external expertise is required. Typically, the caseload will include:
Student and education matters
Regulatory compliance (including consumer issues)
Commercial contracts
Research, enterprise & innovation agreements
Procurement legal advice and contracts
Academic collaboration agreements (national and international)
Litigation
Property
Legal structures, governance and charity law
Data protection and freedom of information
The candidate will manage and develop strong collaborative working relationships with the executive, senior points of contact in the schools and professional service groups.
The candidate will require excellent inter-personal skills and an ability to work effectively across organisational and professional boundaries.
ABOUT YOU
A solicitor or barrister qualified in England & Wales with 5pqe+.
Your experience will include commercial contract law and dispute resolution and you will have demonstrable experience in leading and motivating an effective legal team.
You will be able to interpret, draft and negotiate a wide variety of different contract documentation and advise on new areas of law or changes to the law and to make consequential changes to precedents / suites of legal documents/processes.
With the ability to communicate and present legal and commercial matters clearly, you will be able to deliver work of a consistently high quality across a wide variety of subject areas and specialisations, often to tight deadlines and to prioritise effectively.
