Practice Director - Central London Law firm

Our Clients a specialist Family Law firm in Central London looking to recruit Practice Director to work with the managing Partner.

This is a key role within the firm and one that impacts on regulation, risk and compliance management, client service, morale, administration, the growth and integration of  the firm, the development of professionals and staff and as middle manager specifically to the Accounts Manager (with the Finance Partner) and with the Communications and Business Manager (with the Managing Partner).The Practice Director (PD) manages all aspects of running of the firm and maintains confidentiality of the firm’s business both internally and externally throughout. 

Duties to include:

  1. To establish direction: to developing with the partners a vision and a strategy to achieve that vision; set and communicate (via direction/discussion with the partnership) the long term direction of the firm and ensure that the short term goals, objectives and tasks are aligned and adjusted in anticipation and in response to outside forces and internal changes that impact achievement of the firm’s vision and strategies.
  2. Alignment and Commitment: to assist to build consensus throughout the partnership and gain commitment behind the vision and direction. The PD must ensure the staff are heard and their opinions are considered through strong communication, management, effective listening skills and through effective and appropriate mentoring.
  1. Ensuring Execution: to be accountable for effecting change and execution of the firm’s strategies through the activities and priorities of the partnership and to hold staff accountable and work with them to ensure that people are doing the right things.
  1. Setting a Personal Example: to provide a positive personal example through words and behaviour and to display personal integrity and support to the professionals at all levels in the firm; to take responsibility for actions and hold others accountable when appropriate; to foster a learning organisation where mistakes are quickly identified, owned and where the firm and its professionals learn from them.
  1. Articulate the strategy, USP and competitive advantages of the partnership: to maintain the competitive advantage through careful management of the resources of the firm.
  1. Prepare and execute the strategic plan for the firm:  by working with the firm’s partners.
  2. Establishing Direction and Planning – to obtain partner input and build consensus toward a strategic direction and the development of strategic planning objectives for the firm. Communicate and oversee implementation of approved strategic objectives and for initiatives to be within those strategies.
  3. Professionals – to work with the Managing Partner to support the recruitment and development initiatives in the firm. Supports participation in the firm’s events.
  4. Public Relations – to present a face and voice for the firm to the professional regulatory bodies and others with the Business and Communications Manager.
  5. Motivation & Morale – to create a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, cooperation and collaboration between staff and among groups.
  6. Administration & Staff – to ensure that administrative support is carried out in an effective and efficient manner.
  7. Policies & Records – to develop and implement, in conjunction with the Managing Partner, policies, systems, and procedures for the firm and ensure they are followed by all staff  (including equity partners);
  8. Reporting – to provide regular reporting (in conjunction with the Accounts Manager) to the Finance Partner dealing with finances, growth issues and with the Managing Partner regarding management issues, and the implementation of business strategies.
  9. Authority - the PD will have the broad authority to carry out these duties, except where specifically limited to the partnership as a whole.
