The post also attracts a Market Forces Supplement of £9,250 per annum on top of the salary which can be withdrawn or reduced at any time.

The City of London Corporation is the local authority for the "Square Mile" and the local planning authority responsible for the emerging cluster of iconic tall buildings in the east of the City, and for a number of conservation areas and important listed buildings. It is committed to the support of the City as a pre-eminent international financial and business centre and as a pleasant and vibrant place to work, live and relax. This forms the backdrop for much of the work of this post.

The City Corporation offers the normal array of local government services, as well as  managing and funding a number of world-renowned educational and cultural institutions, working wholesale markets and some of London's most important open spaces, including Hampstead Heath and Epping Forest.

There is a vacancy in the Public and Corporate Law Division. The role will involve leading on planning, highways and transportation law and managing a small team of lawyers working on planning and highways law matters. However, the work of the Division is very varied and other areas could include constitutional, local government, public and charity law and the provision of legal advice to external organisations, including London Councils.

The successful applicant will be qualified solicitor or barrister with at least ten years’ post-qualification experience in complex planning law matters including major schemes. The post also requires a sound understanding of the local authority governance framework. The successful applicant will also be computer literate, have excellent research, analytical and communication skills, the ability to provide clear and pragmatic advice to tight timescales (including orally to large groups), and experience of successfully managing and supporting other team members.

This post is politically restricted.

The successful candidate will have to undergo pre-employment vetting.
