Salary range: £47,638 - £69,075

The Public Defender Service are seeking to recruit an experienced manager to lead their Swansea office. The right person will have extensive criminal defence experience and a desire to contribute to the wider criminal justice system.

You will be required to work flexibly across your local area and have a collaborative and team-orientated approach, which will be valued by a supportive team, who strive for excellence in everything that they do. If your passion for the law extends to wanting to help modernise and improve the wider criminal justice system, then this could be the role for you.

As a qualified Solicitor or Barrister, you will be passionate about criminal law and have a wealth of experience in providing advice and representation in the police station and magistrates’ courts. You will have excellent practical knowledge of current criminal law, evidence and procedure.

The role will involve responsibility for the overall leadership and management of the Swansea office, working with a small team of line managers and managing key business processes. The successful candidate will have experience of supervising legal case work as well as appreciating the need for high standards of client care and legal practice.

You should be able to evidence line management experience and/or willingness to develop management competence by attending management training courses and working with a mentor. You will be expected to have excellent communication skills and personal presence, that enable rapport-building with all stakeholders, line reports and the wider team.

You will need to be assertive, astute as well as being a good listener and full of energy. The successful candidate will be an existing Solicitor (with CLAS), Barrister or Cilex fully qualified to practice as a Duty Solicitor in England and Wales, with at least 5-7 years post qualification experience. A full driving licence and use of a motor vehicle is essential.
