Leeds City Council is looking to recruit a full time permanent principal legal officer. The post holder will be required to undertake a substantial complex personal caseload (both contentious and non-contentious) of legal professional work in the area of development, planning law, highways law and some local government law. The post holder will be expected to have this area of work as a focus but also to provide support on at least one other area of law as required, and any other local government legal matters and / or matters dealt with by Legal Services.

The successful candidate will be a solicitor or barrister entitled to hold a practising certificate or FILEX who will work in a lively and busy team of lawyers involved in a stimulating, challenging and rewarding environment. We are looking for a candidate who is able to work closely with council colleagues and third parties to find pragmatic solutions to related issues; and provide advice to the council, attending committee and board meetings on occasion as required.

It is also essential that the successful candidate has good interpersonal skills, is able to prioritise their own workload and work to tight deadlines. They must be able to work as part of a team and be flexible, enthusiastic and committed.
