The Head of Legal Services

We are searching for a dynamic, qualified Solicitor with IP and corporate law experience to lead our Legal Services team.  The Head of Legal Services will  work with our senior leadership team to support them in our vision of generating world class innovation that will create major social and economic benefit across the globe. 

Reporting to the Finance, Legal and Portfolio Management Director, the Head of Legal Services will be responsible for the full provision of legal services and advice to UMI3.

The Head of Legal Services has responsibility for the full range of legal services including the production, review and management of all legal contracts and agreements for the organisation. The legal team also provides support and advice for spinouts from the University. They will have line management responsibility for a Legal Services Executive. They will also be responsible for overseeing the IP due diligence process ensuring that the University can transact its IP and that any obligations to 3rd parties are fully met. They will lead a robust and proactive corporate governance culture to ensure that UMI3 is compliant with applicable legislative and administrative requirements in order to safeguard the organisation and its employees.  

As the UMI3 main legal point of contact, the Head of Legal Services will liaise with the University of Manchester Legal Department and Information Governance Office as well as building strong relationships with external advisors and other stakeholders. They will ensure that the senior leadership team is kept up to date with new regulations and legislation.

The successful applicant will have a proven track record of providing legal advice over a broad range of specialisms. They should have excellent negotiation skills with demonstrable experience in successfully negotiating commercial contracts. Experience in working with innovative start-up businesses would be an advantage.

A Qualified Solicitor with IP and corporate law experience is essential for this role and post qualification experience in a busy corporate law environment is desirable

Salary Range: £60,449 - £66,813
