The Firm

With offices in Exeter, London and Bristol this firm works with a diverse range of clients who provide their lawyers with the high-quality, intellectually-stimulating and exciting work they thrive on.

They have a strategic focus on Private Wealth, Finance & Investment and Real Estate. They also have strong sector support for Energy, Manufacturing and Technology / Innovation.

They pride themselves on the leading role they play in the business community and their ability to make their connections count for clients, old and new.

They are seeking an Energy Lawyer 2 - 7 years PQE to join them in either Bristol or Exeter.

The Team

The firms specialist energy team continues to be at the forefront of the sector and they have a national and international client base, with a focus on investment and transactional activity. Their work covers diverse technologies with a recent trend towards demand response, storage and 'smart grid' solutions in the electricity sector. However, this is by no means all that they do. Their lawyers are drawn primarily from our commercial, corporate and banking teams: with specialist support from colleagues in real estate, construction and planning.
They regularly advise on the corporate and commercial aspects of large transactions in the energy space, including site and plant acquisitions, as well as a variety of corporate, fundraising and structuring matters for clients in the sector.

The team's client base consists of a diverse range of quality local, national and international organisations. Some of their diverse deals include:

  • Advising on the first IFISA-eligible bond, which supports energy investment.
  • Advising on the cross-border sale of certified emissions reductions, to support the funding of wind farms in the Cape Verde Islands.
  • Advising a large UK client on a series of funding transactions, including substantial secured lending and the UK's first listed bond backed by solar PV assets.
  • Acting for a Finnish client in connection with project funding in Thailand supported by the UN's clean development mechanism, including advice on trading in emissions reduction instruments.
  • Advising on the refinancing of Britain's largest community energy project.
  • Acting for a Chinese-owned German developer on the sale of its UK solar portfolio.
  • Advising on the project timing of a pipeline of AD projects.

The Role

They are looking for an ambitious and talented energy lawyer to work as part of their experienced and entrepreneurial team.

The role will be based in either of their Bristol or Exeter offices, where you will work alongside Leading Individuals and Recommended Lawyers on a variety of medium- to large-scale deals.
You will have the opportunity to further expand your knowledge and build on your experience in this friendly and supportive team. The opportunity also offers a real opportunity for career progression. The work is demanding, but the team has a great working environment and an open and friendly culture, and is proud and protective of its reputation.

The Candidate
