About us

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK government department responsible for delivering a new trade policy framework for the UK as we leave the EU.The Trade Remedies Investigations Directorate supports UK industry by investigating complaints of unfair trade practices to ensure a level playing-field for British industry.

 

About the role

As part of our Legal Team, you will help to safeguard the UK’s interests and keep international trade competitive and fair. It’s a challenging, complex and absorbing brief that has the potential to impact everybody in the UK. As a trusted authority on trade remedies legislation, you will assist investigations using your knowledge of UK legislation and wider public law. This includes offering high-quality legal advice on trade remedies in the context of the Taxation (Cross-Border Trade) Act 2018, relevant secondary legislation, and the WTO Agreements.

 

About you

Our high profile, fast-moving work suits collaborative, business-savvy, big-picture professionals. The roles are open to lawyers from a range of backgrounds, but all will need some regulatory or administrative law experience. The more exposure you have had to WTO and EU trade law and remedies, the better. However, it’s your analytical eye, understanding of the wider public and international law context, and superior research skills that will set you apart.

 

Specifically, you must:

· hold a degree (2:1 or above) or evidence of an equivalent high-level academic or professional achievement;

· be a fully qualified lawyer entitled to practise in England and Wales;

· have a sound understanding of public law including judicial review and human rights law;

· have practical post-qualification experience in one or more of the following: international trade, UK and EU competition or consumer law, regulatory law or State aid casework;

· have experience in researching and delivering high quality legal analysis.

 

We also expect powerful communications skills and a commitment to delivering for the organisation. Agile and creative, you’ll also need to be self-aware and keen to use feedback to help you learn and develop as a professional.
