About the role
In this role you will give advice to all departments of the Council. You will be responsible for and have conduct of an interesting and varied case load covering commercial arrangements, other contracts and grants, corporate governance and advising on procurement procedures and procurement law generally.
You will have between 1 – 5 or more years relevant PQE and be comfortable working within a committed and supportive environment. You will have good research and analytical skills. If you are at Level 1 (1 to 2 years PQE) You will have a keen interest in contract law particularly within the local government sphere.
Public sector law experience would be beneficial, though not essential. If you are at level 2 (2 to 5 years PQE) you will be expected to have reasonable experience and a keen interest in commercial contracts and business law. If you are level 3 (more than 5 years PQE) then you will be expected to have significant experience and a keen interest in commercial contracts and business law as well as a knowledge of public law principles and be able to provide legal advice at a strategic level.
The localism agenda is pushing fundamental change in the way local authorities do business. This is an excellent position for someone who wishes to gain experience in that changing environment.
The successful applicant would be expected to have had relevant experience in contract and procurement law. The applicant should have willingness to develop knowledge of corporate governance concepts.
