A leading UK firm is looking to expand their Regulatory team in their Reading office. My client has over 1000 staff working across the UK and works across 71 sectors of Law. Acting for large corporations, SME's, entrepreneurs, public sectors, charity organisations and individuals alike. Their clients respect the firm for their "exemplary service", code of practise, heritage and engagement, their clients often refer others to them for all types of legal work. The regulatory team is based in Reading and is expected a large volume of cases to come in the next few months and so needs a number of Paralegals to support the influx of work.
Your new role
Your role will involve being a key member of the ever growing Tier 1 Regulatory team in the busy Reading office. With new clients recently being attained there is now a recent influx of work which needs paralegal support. My client has a very strong and successful history of bringing paralegals through their experience, training contract, qualification and beyond. This role is no different with the firm and department looking for aspiring paralegals. The duties and responsibilities within this role will be reporting into the team comprising of paralegals, solicitors, barristers and partners. Under the guidance of our solicitor and barrister case managers you will be undertaking a case investigator role, predominantly on behalf of national healthcare regulators such as the Nursing & Midwifery Council, General Dental Council, General Optical Council, and General Pharmaceutical Council. You will be conducting witness interviews, drafting witness statements and obtaining/preparing all hearing documentation in accordance with a case plan. You will also attend expert conferences and some substantive fitness to practise hearings. You will communicate extensively with witnesses, professional registrants, legal representatives and professional clients including the regulators' hearings managers.
This opportunity is initially going to be a 6 month fixed term contract however the role in the past has been extended and even made permanent on occasions. The need for candidates is urgent and turn around will be quick. The ideal candidate will also be immediately available.
What you'll need to succeed
This role would suit an individual who is interested in pursuing the legal profession. You should have an interest and previous experience working in a Regulatory department as well as strong IT, literacy and numeracy skills. Failing this you must have a Law degree and ideally some experience working within Clinical Negligence, regulatory and Litigation departments. The firm will provide additional training on site however being able to come in and hit the ground running with some legal working knowledge is desirable.
