Job Details

LawWorks (the Solicitors Pro Bono Group) is a charity which enables access to justice by encouraging and supporting legal pro bono in England and Wales.

Solicitor (employment law) – part time

21 hours - £21,957 (equivalent to £36,595 f/t) plus 5% pension.

This position provides an exciting opportunity to join a respected charity working to enable access to justice.

We are looking for a qualified solicitor (minimum two years’ PQE) with experience in employment law (joining two other part-time solicitors working on other pro bono projects).

You will lead on overseeing referrals and supervising pro bono solicitors from member law firms and In-house teams, on employment law cases, specifically unpaid wages and unlawful deduction matters. The role also includes (working with our Policy & External Affairs Team) supporting the development of training for pro bono volunteers.

The ability to work collaboratively and build and maintain relationships will be key.

There will be some flexibility in the days worked and the pattern of working hours during the week for this part-time role.

We would consider applications for a secondment.

We are a busy and (for our size) complex charity, with a friendly team, a positive ethos and a commitment to doing all we can to ensure that LawWorks is a strong and efficient organisation and a great place to work. More information about the role and how to apply is available on the LawWorks website.

The deadline for applications is 10.00am on Monday 14th October.

LawWorks is an equal opportunities employer. We encourage applications irrespective of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age.

You can make a difference

Any lawyer has the ability (with the right temperament and commitment) to do pro bono that makes a difference - whether you are a lawyer in private practice, or an in-house lawyer working for a company, charity or for local or central government.

You may have legal expertise or knowledge which can help an individual, or a charity or not-for-profit organisation resolve a legal problem.

What you definitely will have is valuable training, skills and aptitudes which are readily translatable to real-life situations and problems – for example: the ability to explain a letter or form; to help someone understand what facts may be most relevant to their problem; or to draft a letter to, for example, to an employer.
