Job Details
We have opportunities for 2 Senior Legal Officers to join our team where you will undertake legal work on behalf of the council at a senior level. The roles are offered on a full time basis and in return you will receive a competitive salary of £38,813- £41,675 per annum.
Roles we’re recruiting for:
1x Senior Legal Officer – Social Care Team
1x Senior Legal Officer – Litigation
As our Senior Legal Officer – Social Care Team you will be expected to conduct hearings in the family court (instructing Counsel for only the most complex hearings) and will advise and assist the client at all levels, in writing, orally and by attending meetings as required. You will be part of a team of 7 lawyers and will be supported by 3 paralegal officers.
As our Senior Legal Officer – Litigation your role will involve handling your own case load relating to key Community Safety, Enforcement and Regulatory matters. This will consist of both criminal and civil litigation and will include environmental prosecutions such as fly-tipping, littering, breaches of PSPO’s, committal proceedings and regulatory prosecutions including food safety, trading standards, animal welfare and health and safety.
Key responsibilities of our Senior Legal Officer:
- Provide a comprehensive legal service relevant to the practitioner’s area of specialism which may include undertaking inquiries, tribunals and attendance at court
- Provide professional advice and guidance to services, including information on legal developments
- Draft detailed and complex documentation including pleadings, contracts and agreements, and leases and deeds as appropriate
- Provide challenge to services to ensure that work is undertaken in the best interests of the council and in accordance with its policies, procedures and codes of practice
- Analyse and interpret a variety of complex information in order to solve problems and reach solutions
- Undertake research and project work, preparing and presenting reports and information as required
- Undertake training and continued professional development in accordance with professional requirements
- Demonstrate a significant degree of initiative and responsibility in adopting a problem solving approach to the work
What we’re looking for in our Senior Legal Officer – Social Care Team:
- Relevant qualifications and experience as a lawyer
- Excellent technical knowledge or childcare and well-developed advocacy skills
- Significant experience in child care law in preferred
- Strong teamwork ethic
- Demonstrate a commitment to achieving excellence in this challenging area of law
What we’re looking for in our Senior Legal Officer – Litigation:
Ideally you will be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister, although we will also consider applicants with a level 6 legal qualification such as a Legal Executive (CILEx), with relevant specialist experience in providing a legal service to the General Litigation Team
Your track record includes problem solving, advising senior managers, undertaking research and keeping abreast of legislative changes. As impressive as your legal expertise undoubtedly is what really sets you apart is your flair for liaising, negotiating, influencing and collaborating with people at all levels, across departmental and organisational boundaries.
