Lawyer

We are looking for one enthusiastic, flexible and proactive lawyer, keen to develop their local government expertise, to help the Council to continue it’s transformation journey.

Our in-house legal team provides a full range of advice covering property, contract, data protection, civil litigation and/or prosecutions such as enforcement and regulation.

The successful candidate will have particular expertise in property, but will also be able to provide support in at least one other area of law as required and any other local government legal matters.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has either recently qualified or who has strong legal experience and wants to expand their existing knowledge and experience.

The successful candidate will manage their own caseload of routine and non-routine legal matters with the minimum of supervision. Strong organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with colleagues, councillors, outside organisations and members of the public is a necessity.

You must be either a qualified solicitor, barrister or chartered legal executive (or equivalent), although it is not essential to have worked in local government.

You must be able to provide high quality legal advice, teamed with a pragmatic focus and have:

  • Detailed and extensive legal knowledge gained through qualifications and demonstrable continued professional development.
  • Experience of dealing with your own cases.
  • Technical competence in your chosen area of law and practice.
  • Some supervisory experience to oversee junior members of staff.

We offer flexible working hours, including home working and an opportunity for personal development to broaden skills across other areas of local government law.

We are looking to appoint one post M4 (up to £52,180) – full time (37 hours per week) but part time hours may be considered. Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the criteria as described in the Role Specification at the specified grade for the post for which they are applying.

For an informal chat about these roles, please contact Lidia Harrison, Head of Legal on 01883 732740, or e-mail lharrison@tandridge.gov.uk

Interviews to be held week beginning 4 November.
