Broxbourne Borough Council and Epping Forest District Council have recently joined their Legal Services teams, offering an excellent variety of work and opportunities to operate in two interesting and diverse environments, with the partnership offering new horizons.

Principal Litigation Lawyer (Ref No: 1A129P)

Salary up to £43,098 pa dependant on skills and experience

This new role will be the lead for litigation at Broxbourne Borough Council, but with the opportunity to undertake work for Epping Forest District Council. This role will deputise for the Head of Legal Services at the Broxbourne Council office and be responsible for the day to day management of the Council’s legal team consisting of two lawyers, a legal apprentice and administrative support staff. The litigation work is varied and includes housing possession, anti-social behavior, debt recovery and commercial property litigation in the County Court and a wide range of prosecutions in the Magistrate’s Court, such as fly-tip and Planning enforcement cases.

The successful candidate will have an excellent knowledge of court procedures and be a confident advocate, dealing with a varied personal caseload. In addition the post requires outstanding communication both written and verbal with strong influencing skills and the ability to build rapport with a wide variety of people. Other essential skills include conscientious, hard-working and self-motivation, with exceptional organisational and prioritization skills for managing a busy workload. Experience working in a Local Government environment is desirable but not essential.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post.
