Cumbria County Council are expanding our Legal and Democratic Services team, and this is a fantastic opportunity for enthusiastic and hard-working candidates to join us as Lawyers, across a number of specialist areas.
We have various vacancies available and ideally, we are looking for Legal Executives/Barristers or Solicitors who have sufficient practise experience and some knowledge of working in the public sector or a politically sensitive environment. As well as this, we are also taking this opportunity to encourage applications from newly qualified candidates and Lawyer/Solicitors outside of the public sector who are looking for an opportunity to develop their career working in a fast-paced and dynamic organisation, experiencing local government law at the cutting edge.

As one of our Lawyers, you will provide high quality legal advice, representation and conduct of legal transactions on the behalf of the Council, ensuring the Service delivers efficient and effective assistance to both our internal and external customers. You will manage a varied and often complex caseload, and where appropriate, provide representation in the courts, tribunals and at other bodies.
As well as providing legal advice and other legal services, we are looking for candidates who can support strategic planning, policy formation, corporate governance, and review and scrutiny within the wider Council. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the Council’s wider services, and to make an important and positive impact on how the organisation supports the communities of Cumbria.
