Lawyer - Legal Services and Complaints Manage

Salary: £52,306-£60,983 pa

Experienced Clinical Negligence lawyer required to join in-house NHS Acute Hospital’s legal team.  Applicants should be comfortable dealing with all aspects of clinical negligence and inquest work as this is the “bread and butter” caseload associated with this post. In addition, this role is truly varied and offers lawyers the chance to stretch themselves and engage in stimulating, challenging and cutting edge legal work. Our team provides in-house advice on a range of issues, including treatment decisions and Court of Protection matters. We are also involved with handling and drafting responses to formal complaints and teaching student doctors at the University of East Anglia. Applicants should have at least 5 years PQE; a practical mind; and, a willingness to be flexible to meet the needs of the Hospital.

Applicants should be highly committed and have a professional approach to work.  They must be willing to be flexible with the application of the law and the role of a lawyer.  Applicants must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written and be well versed in communicating with senior professionals, MPs and members of the public alike.

Requirements:

  • Sound knowledge of clinical negligence (5 years PQE)
  • Able to run a case load of claims and inquests independently
  • Comfortable providing advocacy in the Coroner’s Court
  • Ability to identify issues and provide sound legal advice and ad hoc enquiries
  • Familiar with Power Point and be able to present/lecture to large groups
  • Be able to assess risk and apply it within the NHS
  • Previous NHS or panel firm experience would be an advantage
  • Willingness to manage complaints to achieve resolution via mediation or other means

The Trust offers candidates the opportunity to work flexibly and autonomously. There are no timesheets or micromanagement, just a focus on providing good quality legal and practical advice. Other benefits include entitlement to join the NHS pension scheme and a generous holiday package.

For further information or informal discussion please contact John-Paul Garside, Head of Legal Services on 01603 287475.
