Vacancy: Voluntary post as a Trustee/Director of the Children and Young People’s Empowerment project: the CHILYPEP charity, dedicated to raising the voices of young people and giving them the confidence, influence and platform to shape their world.

We are seeking someone knowledgeable about company and charity law to help our award-winning organisation become even more successful. Started in 2002, CHILYPEP has gone from strength to strength, and now employs 16 staff members, and our last annual turnover was £484,259.00, and we have expanded from Sheffield to cover South Yorkshire, as well as influencing national policy. A registered charity, CHILYPEP is also registered as a Limited by Guarantee company. We are a very committed and passionate Board of Trustees and we are looking for someone to join us to help us develop and oversee the strategy of the charity going forward. To find out more about the work we do, please visit our website

What we need from you is a passion for involving children and young people in having a voice and a say about their lives. All out work is predicated on this, and their views are included in our board activity too.

The Board meets every 6-8 weeks for 1.5 hours in an evening (5.30-7.00pm), usually in central Sheffield, more lately via Zoom. Trustees can also get involved in other ways, for example, fundraising activities, interviewing for staff, and linking to one of the many groups for young people that CHILYPEP runs.

One of our fundamental principles is ‘being kind’ so you’d need to feel this too. It would be preferable if you were from the South Yorkshire area, but not essential.

What you’ll get from us is inclusion on a friendly and dynamic board, a chance to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people, a chance to influence the strategy of CHILYPEP going forward, gain experience of being a Director/Trustee - and your expenses paid.

Having read all this, are you interested in becoming a Chilypepper? If so, please contact Greer on   for an application form and cc in the Managing Director  If you’d like a chat before submitting your application form, please ring Andrew Dykes, the Chair on 07788726063 or Jane Sedgewick the Vice Chair on 07787508856.

We will hold informal video calls with all candidates and will be in touch once we get your application.

If you’re reading this and CHILYPEP has piqued your interest, but you’re not able to become a trustee, please feel free to donate, all donations are appreciated and put to good work: We are about to embark a large project in Barnsley – to set up an Emotional Well-Being Hub for children and young people across the Borough – your donation might help us make this a welcoming and friendly space for all.

Chilypep is an equal opportunity employer and is registered with the Equality Register. We welcome applications from all sections of society.

Chilypep is committed to the safeguarding and protection of children, young people and vulnerable adults and has stringent policies and procedures in place, including enhanced DBS checks for all those working with us.
