Leading law firm looking to recruit dedicated Paralegal / Trainee Solicitor for highly sought permanent position. Training contracts available for those with relevant experience.

Civil Liberties & Human Rights Department background

Our client’s Civil Liberties and Human Rights department has been praised for its in depth experience and commitment to Human Rights by Legal 500 2015 and 2014 editions. Their practitioners are specialists in civil liberties covering a number of areas of law including Immigration, Public Law, Community Care, Welfare Benefit, Childcare, Family, Housing and Crime. Our client’s team of lawyers transcends a number of these key legal departments to ensure an effective and consistent multidisciplinary approach to their representation.

The department has extensive experience challenging human rights violations for victims of torture, trafficking, domestic violence and unaccompanied minors. A number of their clients are often very vulnerable with illnesses and/or severe mental health conditions.

The Role

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Report directly to Department Director
  • Professional pro-active approach, strong client care skills and a sensitive and sympathetic understanding of clients’ needs
  • Assisting with casework including dealing with a range of Civil Liberties and Human Rights Law matters
  • Attending clients, taking instructions and preparing cases
  • Dealing with correspondence
  • Preparing and managing funding applications to the Legal Aid Agency,
  • Preparing draft documents including witness statements and processing evidence
  • Preparing applications (incl. drafting application forms, index of documents and letters of representations)
  • Attending conferences and court
  • Maintaining accurate time costing procedures
  • Implementing any recommendations made by your supervisor following monthly file reviews ensuring that these are dealt with promptly
  • Ensuring compliance with file management.

Key Skills Required

  • Demonstrate passion and experience in a broad range of Civil Liberties and Human Rights Law issues
  • A strong academic background with a Law degree
  • Legal experience as a Civil Liberties and Human Rights Paralegal/Advisor
  • Clear understanding and application of Civil Liberties and Human Rights Law
  • Business acumen and the ability to market the Company
  • Excellent communications skills to work effectively with all types of people
  • Excellent analytical and organisational skills and ability to use own initiative but know when to seek guidance
  • Committed  team player,  self -motivated and professional 
  • Excellent IT Skills -familiar with Microsoft Office applications and document management skills

This list is not exhaustive and there may be other duties as reasonably required.

Candidates with 12 months previous experience and who have completed the LPC will be considered for a Training Contract, subject to business needs.
