Job Details

My client in the Stoke on Trent area is looking for an experienced public children's law specialist to join their in house team. This position shall last for 6 months initially, but may go on considerably longer. This is a full time position but applicants seeking a 4 day week will also be considered.

The lawyer we are seeking will join a strengthened and highly experienced team, helping to deliver exceptional children's legal services to all families in the surrounding area. You must be a qualified Solicitor/Barrister/Legal Executive with a current Practising Certificate.

As a Childcare Lawyer you will be involved in interesting, challenging, and rewarding work; work that will give you the satisfaction of accomplishment that can come from helping vulnerable children and their families. You will have the advantage of undertaking advocacy at centrally located courts and remotely. You will be required to undertake a manageable caseload. You will receive excellent legal assistant assistance with pre proceedings, PLO matters and court bundles which will allow you to concentrate on your casework.

This is an ideal role for an individual already experienced in local authority childcare work. Alternatively, you might be experienced in public children's work from a private practice perspective and looking to make the move into local government.

You will also work very closely with the social workers and their managers assisting in developing successful long term working relationships. Working in a collaborative environment, one which encourages schools, health professionals and the police to work together ensures the Childcare Solicitors can do the best job possible for their clients and their teams.

The IT support infrastructure available with all team staff has allowed the legal office to adapt to working from home for all staff during the Covid-19 crisis and ensures that the team is well placed to deal with future change as the situation develops. My client is flexible in terms of hours and home working. This role is initially home based and then as and when the courts reopen they will assess the situation.

This is a long term locum position, so applicants must be available to start at short notice.
