Senior Legal Assistant – Legal Services – Central Office (Ref: 720)

The Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers is the UK's fifth largest and fastest growing trade union, with over 395,000 members.

A vacancy exists at the Union’s Central Office in Fallowfield, Manchester. Please note that the Union’s office is moving to Salford Quays in 2021.

The position is Grade 5, salary range £34,447 pa rising to £43,047 pa after 3 years’ service.

The hours of work are 34 per week:

Monday to Thursday     -           8.45 am to 4.45 pm

Friday                           -           8.45 am to 3.45 pm

A system of flexible working hours is in operation.

The principal duties are: to deliver an advice and representation service in employment and industrial law matters to Union members, representatives and officials; to prepare employment casework; represent at tribunals and to oversee the work of the Employment Law Legal Assistants.

The successful applicant will possess: qualified employment solicitor status is desirable but not essential or equivalent practical experience of employment law and employment tribunals; excellent written and verbal communication skills; planning and organisation skills; negotiating and presentation skills; research skills and IT proficiency.
