We are looking to recruit dynamic, creative and highly skilled lawyers with significant experience of Children’s and Adult Social Care matters to join our forward thinking Legal Service.

We are looking for qualified Solicitors or Barristers or Fellows of the Institute of Legal Executives with post-qualification experience of dealing with child care proceedings, adult social care, public law and judicial review matters.

You will be solution focused and driven to achieve successful outcomes for your clients. You will provide a responsive service working closely with colleagues across the Council to deliver key objectives in accordance with the Corporate Plan. These are demanding roles that will require resilience and tenacity along with the determination to achieve results.

You will be responsible for a mixed caseload and must be proactive in dealing with both contentious and non-contentious matters. As the first point of contact for clients and as a legal representative at the Courts, excellent communication skills are essential, but you will also appreciate and exemplify the tact and discretion needed to handle highly confidential and sensitive matters.

Always thinking on your feet, you will be someone who can be relied upon to take the initiative and will be keen to contribute to the strategic development of the service.

Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best.

The recruitment process is anonymous. Therefore, we do not accept supporting statements or CVs.

When applying, there will be a number of questions relating to the post on the application form. It is essential that you complete the application questions, responding to each using examples of your skills, knowledge and experience.

This application process replaces a supporting statement.

Closing date for applications: Sunday 27 September 2020

We are working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.

Company

Hackney is London's most diverse and dynamic borough. Stretching from the edge of the City, to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, it is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in the tech, media, fashion and other creative industries. Hackney has more green space than any other inner London borough, some of the capital's best schools, and first class transport connections, which combined with excellent local public services and a thriving arts, cultural and retail sector, are fast making it one of London's most popular areas to live, work and visit. The challenge for Hackney is to make sure that the borough's economic growth provides benefits for everyone who lives here, and to create opportunities that will transform the lives of local people.

Hackney’s legal team enables and supports the Council to provide an effective and value-for-money service.
