Interim Assistant Director of Legal Services – 18 months – Midlands – Remote Working

A unique opportunity has arisen for an Interim Assistant Director of Legal to join an established Local Authority in the Midlands.

The appointed candidate will support the Chief Executive with implementing change and transformation at an operational level, in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders. The post holder will also be directly responsible for the management and leadership of Heads of Law for each Legal directorate within the Council.

The position is offered on a full-time basis for a duration of 18 months initially; however, there is a good possibility for extension thereafter. This role will operate remotely for the foreseeable future, though there may be some expectation for office presence if Government and Council guidance should change.

Prior experience working as a Head of Legal Services or similar level within a Local Authority is essential for this position.

Duties will include:

Providing strong professional and managerial leadership across the organisation, including setting clear objectives and measures to efficiently manage performance and resources

Working with colleagues to identify and determine the best methods of service delivery, in order to deliver high quality performance and customer experience

Creating a supportive working environment where employees will flourish and deliver services within the Council to the highest possible standard

Developing and negotiating approaches to local service planning and delivery in collaboration with relevant internal and external stakeholders and bodies

Supporting the Chief Executive, Elected Members and colleagues in translating strategic vision and priorities into operational plans, monitoring their progress on a regular basis, identifying exceptions


The offered rate for this position will be negotiated dependent on prior experience.
