Our client is a well liked Legal 500 rated firm which acts for clients across Yorkshire and further afield, both commercial clients and private individuals including those of significant worth.

As part of the firms succession planning the firm is looking to recruit a candidate who in the medium term would be progressing into management in a department of private client fee earners which includes accountancy and tax qualified professionals as well as lawyers.

An ideal candidate will be a proven experienced Tax/Trust specialist probably STEP qualified and with aspirations for partnership of not already a Partner. However, given the shortage of those candidates it is also very possible that a lawyer in a commercial discipline (corporate or banking perhaps) who wanted to re-direct their experience into acting for individuals would also be of interest. The clients frequently have various business interests, income streams and assets and so the skill in this role in engaging with those people to understand their challenges, the structures in which their wealth is currently held, and their financial objectives, and then coming up with a viable solution. Candidates who are used to working with business owners and directors will have these skills and this confidence, and so would be upskilling (with support from a Partner) in the intricacies of tax advice and trusts work.

That transition is perfectly possible for a lawyer interested in making that move and who is most likely motivated by establishing deep client relationships, who enjoys complex problem solving, but yet who also is perhaps jaded by the pressures of transactional work.

This firm is viewing this as a key appointment and so is keen to engage in exploratory conversations with experienced Private Client lawyers or those who think this sort of re-directing of PQE to date is of interest. Having met the client and discussed at length we feel this is a truly unique opportunity for a legal professional who focuses on their clients and want to enjoy working closely with people and making a real difference to their lives.
