Job description: A leading international retailer is looking for a Legal Counsel to join their in-house legal team based in Greater Manchester for a 9-12 month fixed term contract, with possibility of being made permanent.

We are looking for an in-house lawyer (2 years’ PQE – 5 years’ PQE) to join a fast-paced legal team that is dynamic and hard-working. This role includes international travel opportunities (subject to COVID restrictions) alongside a good variety of interesting and high-profile work.

All members of the legal team are responsible for advising and supporting the business on a full range of legal issues (excluding day to day employment and property matters). This will include a range of commercial, corporate and regulatory work. Examples include:

  • Advising on, drafting, reviewing and negotiating a diverse range of commercial agreements (including licensing agreements, supplier agreements, sponsorship/influencer agreements - across sports, fashion and music, consumer facing terms and conditions, online/media campaigns and technology agreements).
  • Assisting the business’s M&A team on a diverse range of corporate transactional work, including acquisitions and joint ventures, in the UK and internationally.
  • Advising the business on various regulatory areas including data protection, consumer regulations and advertising standards regulations.
  • Maintaining and actively managing intellectual property portfolios and providing IP advice to the business.
  • The management of relationships and interaction with external counsel and advisors.

Requirements:

  • UK qualified solicitor (PQE Experience is essential).
  • Training and previous commercial law experience in a respectable in-house role or law firm.
  • The ability to work with all levels of the business (including the executive leadership team).
  • The ability to manage international legal matters and to take ownership of key international territories (the role requires travelling to such territories as necessary - subject to COVID restrictions).
  • Self-motivated, ambitious individuals with the ability to thrive in a fast paced environment.
  • Commercially aware, taking a pragmatic and commercial approach to balancing legal risk.

Desirable:

  • Experience in commercial contracts in media/entertainment/sports beneficial.
  • M&A knowledge/experience desirable.
  • GDPR knowledge/experience desirable. 
  • Knowledge and experience in negotiating IT/Software agreements desirable.
  • Prior in-house experience (especially in retail) beneficial but not required.
