The role

We are looking to appoint an external examiner for the Police Station Representative Accreditation Scheme (PSRAS) to work on a flexible ad-hoc daily basis. The aim of the scheme is to accredit non-solicitors to advise and assist suspects being held at a police station.

This role of the PSRAS external examiner will be to work with the existing providers, to review assessment related processes, activities and assessments, to evaluate the findings and report back to the SRA. We are looking for individuals who are or who have recently been duty solicitors, have teaching and/or assessment experience and who are occupationally competent in the role of advising clients at the police station.

We are also looking for someone with a strong commitment to equality and diversity and the delivery of fair assessments.

What we are looking for

  • A qualified solicitor who is or has recently been a duty solicitor
  • Experience of criminal litigation practice
  • Experience of teaching and/or assessing
  • Experience of evaluation of assessment related activities and writing evaluation reports

Useful information

The successful applicant will start early in 2021 for a period of up to three years.

The commitment is likely to be no more than 15 days per year (7 hours per day) to review materials remotely, sample questions and observe training.

The work will be remunerated at a day rate of £400 gross per day, plus reasonable travelling expenses.
