Solicitor

Fixed Term Contract for 12 months, 37  hours per week

Salary: £35,745 rising to £37,890

The Council is looking for a qualified solicitor with demonstrable transferrable skills and knowledge, to join the Councils small legal team.  The Council’s legal services deal with a broad range of matters covering all Council departments and functions.  Candidates should have experience of managing their own legal case load effectively and while local government experience is desirable, the Council welcome applicants from all practice areas who can contribute specialist knowledge and are also willing to move into new practice areas. Ideal candidates will have excellent communication skills, a proactive approach and a general knowledge of the law affecting local government.

Reporting to the Senior Solicitor and assisting the Legal Services team, you will be required to provide high quality advice and assistance to Officers and Members of the Council and support client departments and Council services through the provision of legal services as required and in accordance with instructions received.  The role is varied providing legal support to all Council departments including planning, housing, economic development, property and estates, licensing and environmental services.

The post is deemed to be politically restricted. Post holders may be required to work occasional evenings and travel independently around the District to attend meetings.
