Trustees including Chair Elect

Employer
The Solicitors' Charity
Location
Nationwide
Salary
£Voluntary
Closing date
4 Jan 2021

The Solicitors’ Charity has been supporting solicitors in crisis since 1858. When times are hard, we ensure access to financial, emotional and practical support to help people take back control. We aim to make a permanent impact and positive change to the lives of the people who ask us for help.

The Solicitors’ Charity (formally the Solicitors’ Benevolent Association) is seeking four trustees, including a Chair Elect, to provide strategic insight and their sector knowledge and expertise. They will help ensure that the charity continues to serve the needs of solicitors in crisis as well as providing the right blend of support and constructive challenge to the Board, the Chief Executive and the wider team.

The Board can include three non-solicitors as trustees and is interested in hearing from experts within the fields of:

  • Mental health/well-being service provision
  • Welfare benefits/debt advice provision
  • Investment management/finance (also to become Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee)
  • Practicing solicitors who are well connected across the profession (especially those with the experience to take on the Chair Elect role)

Whilst we would expect the Chair Elect candidate to ideally have previous Chair experience, we are open to candidates seeking their first trustee role for the other three roles.

Trustees may serve three consecutive terms totalling up to 10 years and we expect the Chair Elect, who will first spend time as a trustee, to serve in that role for three years.

The Solicitors’ Charity is committed to Equality and Diversity and welcomes applications from under-represented groups within these fields.

For a confidential and informal chat about this role please contact Rebecca O’Connor at Allen Lane on 07921 336 229 or email her at rebeccaoconnor@allenlane.co.uk.

Closing date is Midnight Monday 4th January 2021.
