EMPLOYMENT 6yrsPQE to PARTNER, YORKSHIRE/UK (Flexible and remote working)

Our client is a boutique firm which is focused on Employment (respondent) work and is setting its own course in terms of client service and future expansion. Whilst adopting modern working practices this firm is winning market share from its attentiveness, its commitment to quality of service, and it's honest pricing of its services - it might sound simplistic but it is effective! The quality of work is high (including household names, as well as SMEs) and the lawyers have a good range of work to be busy with. THe brand forcus is 100% Employment Law and that's something they are committed to for the foreseeable future.

They continue to expand through hiring experienced lawyers with followings, who come to the firm with their own needs of their role, and this firm looks to hear those needs and to deliver on them. They want to accommodate and then motivate and reward people, and a key part of that is understanding what each team member wants, and not being afraid to organise a role and expectations specifically for that individual to make them happy. Joining this firm is not about implementing what they want from you, so much as what you are prepared to contribute and what they are able to facilitate.

As part of their next phase of growth they want to recruit an additional Employment Law specialist, and ideally that'll be a mid-to-senior level person. c6yrsPQE+ would be about right as there won't be close daily supervision so any candidate is going to have to be comfortable with a high degree of autonomy. Your skills will be in respondent work, and they want to see some proven ability to build client relationships and ideally a small following of say c£50K to demonstrate your potency with clients. This following they'd house and supplement with work passed from colleagues, to keep you busy and also allow you the time and space to nurture your contacts and to enhance your profile in the market.

The frm is happy to discuss flexible working arrangements, part-time hours (etc) to engage with candidates wanting more flexibility to work around family. And they can also consider appointments in various part of the UK - they have a York and London office and so other regions where you might be based are all of interest to expand their coverage and penetration into new regions. Longterm remote working is part of their plan, so geographical location is an irrelevence when it comes to working for this brand.

This firm is quite comfortable offering candidates a lot of autonomy and flexibility over their working practises. They enjoy an attractive office location on the edge of York (easily commutable using the A64 and no York city centre traffic to contend with) and the firm is keen to treat its staff well and to allow them flexibility about how they want to work day to day. You can expect to be supported and encouraged as a key member of a team. Remuneration will include a significant bonus element such that you will be expecting better personal earnings for your fee productivity than you'd get in a typical law firm. This is not an 'eat what you kill' business, rather it'd be a salary plus bonus/split arrangement so you'd get the reward for higher performance but also the security of guaranteed earnings.

Given that this is not a high profile brand they are quite prepared to engage in exploratory conversation with candidates who meet the brief above in order that they can share information about themselves and see what fit there might be. Whilst the office location is in the York area that does not equate to this firm having a Yorkshire-centric capability and so candidates from a bit further afield or whose clients are geographically more widespread are encouraged to apply.

Brooke Thornham Consulting advertisements use PQE levels purely as a guide to the level of experience required for the role and this does not prohibit applications from candidates who are able to demonstrate the necessary skills and experience. We aim to respond to enquiries as soon as possible but if we have not contacted you within 5 days then unfortunately on this occasion your application has not quite met the requirements of our client closely enough.
