Job Details

What's in it for you

  • Play a prominent role in representing the SRA by building strong relationships with the largest law firms in England and Wales including City, international and large national law firms.
  • Contribute to the development of our regulatory approach and policy initiatives
  • Utilise and develop your public speaking and presentation skills at seminars, events and conferences.
  • Enjoy an autonomous, varied and intellectually stimulating role, whilst achieving a balance between your personal and professional life.

The role

The Regulatory Management (RM) team is tasked with maintaining and developing the SRA's relationships with a defined group of around 75 of the largest and most high profile firms in England and Wales. As part of the RM team, you will be responsible for proactive engagement and relationship building with your own portfolio of around 15 firms. You will also engage extensively with colleagues in other parts of the SRA to share your knowledge and experience, contribute to regulatory developments and support their engagement with the firms.

Being part of a small and dedicated team of about five colleagues, you will engage constructively with key personnel at your allocated firms to gain a deep understanding about the nature of their organisation, services and clients, relevant regulatory issues and the risks and challenges specific to the firms. This engagement will mainly be carried out on a face-to-face basis, through meetings with key contacts at firms. Accordingly, some travel may be involved, although the majority of the firms the Regulatory Management team-work with are based in the City of London.

You will speak at and participate in a programme of topical seminars, workshops and external conferences targeted at RM firms or where RM firms are part of the target audience.

At the bottom of the advert you will find attached the Role Profile and a 'A day in the life of' document. These will help you understand in more detail the responsibilities of the role and what it looks like from the perspective of a Regulatory Manager.

What we are looking for

  • Relevant experience as a practising solicitor or from a compliance role in a law firm
  • Strong ability to network, engage and build relationships with stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to present to an audience
  • Experience of operating autonomously and collaborating as part of cross functional team
  • A good awareness and understanding of the legal profession
  • Evidenced ability to devise, implement and deliver against strategic and operational plans

In addition to those who are already in a role, we welcome applicants who may be looking to return to work after a career break and we recognise that finding the right role can be difficult. We also recognise that this is a specialist and niche role. Experience of working in a regulatory compliance or risk management role is not a requirement. You will be part of a supportive team and training, including shadowing other Regulatory Managers, will be provided. You will also be provided with organisation wide training.

Flexible working and additional information

We are supportive of helping you achieve a balance between your personal and professional life and are happy to discuss scope for part time working and other flexible arrangements prior to application. We can offer this role either on a full-time basis, 35 hours per week, or on a part time basis between 28-35 hours per week.
