Specialist Prosecutor

Are you a talented lawyer looking to take the next step in your career? Being a Specialist Prosecutor with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) Proceeds of Crime means that you will be at the forefront of delivering justice.

CPS Proceeds of Crime (CPS PoC) is at the forefront of the fight against Economic Crime, ensuring that criminal assets are restrained, confiscated and enforced; so that criminals do not benefit from their ill-gotten gains. This role is one of the most demanding within the CPS. You must advise on and prepare specialist cases for CPS PoC, with a focus on asset recovery investigations and prosecutions, conducted by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC). The post holder will be based at HMRC premises, and will be required to travel to HMRC offices, and on occasion abroad.

In your role, you’ll be required to analyse evidence and review files engaging with HMRC, the police and other agencies, including investigators and prosecutors from foreign jurisdictions. Apply specific legislation, and procedures and processes, which may include European Arrest Warrant, Mutual Legal Assistance and extradition, to provide accurate advice and make sound case decisions. Therefore, it is essential you are able to make effective decisions and provide clear case management strategies. You will need to be able to demonstrate a high level of oral and written communication skills and engage with senior leaders across CPS and other criminal justice partners and Government Departments.

You will have opportunities to develop your career further including using your Individual Learning Account (ILA) to attend training courses and get the chance to shadow colleagues in order to gain different perspectives. You will be supported in your progression with access to various promotion opportunities.

Delivering justice is complex with work that is sometimes emotionally challenging, which is why we offer a range of benefits including flexible working, civil service pension scheme, access to employee savings schemes and 25 days leave, rising to 30 days after 5 years’ service.
