Legal Adviser

IMA - Swansea Civic Centre, Swansea SA1 3SN

£46,154 - £62,000

Influence the direction of a new public body

The Independent Monitoring Authority for the Citizens’ Rights Agreements is a new public body. Our role is to monitor the UK’s implementation and application of the agreements made by UK Government with the EU, and EEA/EFTA states, to guarantee the rights of their citizens living in the UK, now that we have left the EU. The IMA became operational on 31 December 2020. Joining us gives you an exciting opportunity to help shape, at pace, the way we deliver on our responsibilities.

Both challenging and professionally rewarding – a career-defining opportunity

Working with senior stakeholders across the IMA, you’ll be part of the legal team responsible for advising the Board on the UK government’s implementation of part 2 of the Withdrawal Agreement and part 2 of the EEA EFTA Separation Agreement.

You’ll also be involved in providing legal advice, training and input to operational colleagues across a range of areas, including complaints handling, inquiries and potential use of the IMA’s legal powers.

As one of four Legal Advisers within a team of six lawyers, you’ll be supported by the Senior Legal Advisers as you grow your knowledge in new and more complex areas of legal issues and questions. You’ll also take an active role in developing our legal databases and other resources, and work with external legal service providers under the direction and oversight of the General Counsel.

What you’ll bring

As a qualified barrister or solicitor, you should have experience of advising on the main features of public law.

You’ll bring strong analytical ability and confidence in working with, influencing and communicating complex issues to senior stakeholders. We’re also looking for you to be able to advise on complex and technical areas of law and exercise sound judgement in the effective management of legal risk.

Benefits

Join us, and you’ll receive a competitive benefits package that includes generous annual leave, valuable learning and development opportunities and a highly desirable contributory pension scheme. Our maternity and paternity leave is considerably more than the statutory minimum, and our multiple staff wellbeing initiatives (including flexible working options) ensure a good work/life balance.
