This is a key post within an integrated acute and community NHS Trust within East Cheshire. The post holder will be a member of the Corporate Affairs and Governance Directorate and manage the Trust’s Legal Services Team, including line management of its staff. The role has responsibility for a mixed caseload of legal cases, management of subject access and data protection request process, deprivation of liberty processes, provision of advice and training to staff and, working in collaboration with the safeguarding team, prepare the trust for the transition to the new liberty protection safeguards.

About Us

The Corporate Affairs and Governance Directorate has responsibility for monitoring and reporting on a diverse range of the Trust's systems, processes and outcomes in relation to quality governance, risk management, emergency preparedness, clinical and information governance. The department provides information and assurance to the Trust Board and its sub-committees, and works in collaboration with corporate and operational leads to enhance the quality and safety of the services we provide.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking a solicitor with at least two years PQE, who has significant experience within the field of healthcare law, including management of clinical negligence claims, inquests, advising on court of protection and mental capacity matters. The ideal candidate will also have experience of advising on general employment law issues.

Along with a first class understanding of legal processes, the successful candidate will demonstrate excellent leadership skills and strong personal and professional credibility. You will have a kind and approachable manner and will be confident in providing advice and support to staff at all levels within the organisation, as well as liaising with patients and their family members or representatives. Along with advanced written skills, you will also demonstrate outstanding verbal communication skills and will communicate highly complex information clearly. You will have a proven ability to build strong relationships, to manage staff and will be able to demonstrate a proactive approach to support the sharing of learning from claims or inquests.
