Opportunity

  • We are looking for senior contentious and non-contentious lawyers who want to work for a Legal 500 listed boutique Energy & Infrastructure specialist law firm.
  • Established for over 10 years, we have always offered full working from home options.
  • You would keep a significant part of your earnings.
  • You would have the latest technology and a full team of people to assist you.

Background

Prospect Law is an SRA regulated Multi-Disciplinary Practice (MDP). The firm specialises in the energy (particularly renewables and nuclear), infrastructure, natural resources and maritime and international trade sectors.

Prospect is regularly listed as a Leading Firm in its chosen areas of expertise by the Legal 500 https://www.legal500.com/firms/4167-prospect-law-ltd/6960-castle-donington-england/.

Our Work

Prospect’s contentious work is particularly well known for public law challenges to government organisations which are involved in and manage the UK’s energy industry, including its various subsidy regimes. This reputation stemmed from a successful Judicial Review we issued on behalf of Solar Century Holdings against the then Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in 2011, a case which challenged unlawful alterations to the Feed-in Tariff scheme for UK solar installations. The firm won the BusinessGreen Leaders Law Firm of the Year for its work on this ground-breaking litigation in 2012. https://www.businessgreen.com/interview/2195670/businessgreen-leaders-awards-prospect-law-the-firm-that-sued-the-government-and-won

Prospect’s non-contentious legal work covers all the specialisations required for large energy and infrastructure projects including corporate and commercial, employment, environmental, immigration, insurance and international trade, maritime, property, planning and regulatory.

Our non-legal advisory work covers a number of technical fields which are designed to directly complement the firm’s specialist areas of legal expertise. The firm advises on energy regulation, nuclear security and economics, the workings of renewable energy subsidy schemes, investment into energy projects, grid connections, and land / property issues surrounding development projects. We are also advising on the establishment of alternative insurance models for clients undertaking specialist renewable energy project development work in the UK and internationally.

Client Base

Prospect’s clients range from UK, US and EU companies involved in the renewable and nuclear energy industries, to various UK regulatory organisations involved in the transportation, storage and treatment of radioactive waste and in nuclear decommissioning projects, various UK banks and other financial institutions, local authorities in London and elsewhere in the UK regions, and private landowners and developers. Prospect has an established client base in the MENA region, and particularly in Saudi Arabia where we advise on multiple cleantech energy projects.

Prospect is intentionally positioned in the market as a boutique, multi-disciplinary firm. We provide our clients with specialist advice from lawyers and non-lawyers who have proven track records as established experts in their fields. The firm prides itself on the excellent reputation it has built up in its areas of activity over a relatively short time span, and we consciously regard ourselves as serious competitors to a number of traditional and highly regarded international firms.

Recruitment

Prospect has grown at a fast rate for several years. We aim to attract lawyers (and non-lawyers) who have a client following and who do not wish (for a variety of reasons) to continue working in a traditional law firm environment. The experts who join us do so on the understanding that Prospect will provide them with the infrastructure they need to provide a high-quality service for their clients (PI cover, IT, marketing, paralegal support, invoicing, research materials etc). On the other hand however, most of the experts who join Prospect sharply distinguish the reputation which this firm has gained from a number of well-known distributed law firms which have evolved over recent years in the UK legal services market. This differentiation is key, and it is the reason we have gone into the level of detail set out above as to Prospect’s specialist expertise and the reputational position it has established in its chosen fields.

In short, most of the senior lawyers and non-lawyers who choose to join this firm do so because they acknowledge and appreciate Prospect’s reputation and its leading position in the UK market, and because their clients need to be serviced through a known and established brand.

Most of the professionals who have joined Prospect over the years have been introduced to the firm by word of mouth. That pattern continues to this day, and at any single point in time we tend to be discussing options with a handful of potentially suitable lawyers and non-lawyers. We are now looking to expand the firm further and faster.

We should make clear also that the increased drive to recruit suitable candidates to join this firm has been encouraged by the changes and pressures brought about through the Covid-19 crisis. The model we have developed and operated for over ten years in terms of working practices has now “come into its own” as the crisis has developed. What has not changed however, is the desire of highly experienced and highly regarded professionals to join and work within an organisation which is capable of reflecting their own client base and reputational standards.

Please contact Edmund Robb at er@prospectlaw.co.uk if you would like to discuss the potential for joining Prospect Law.
