Solicitor – Safer Housing (Band I)

The starting salary is £38,890 (Level One) rising to £40,876 (Level Two) on the first year anniversary, subject to satisfactory completion of a probation period (pro rata for part time workers)

This post holder will play a key role primarily in advising and representing the Council’s Safer Housing team and their licensing and enforcement functions. The role will involve advising in relation to the Council’s mandatory and additional licensing schemes for houses in multiple occupation, it’s selective licensing scheme in respect of other privately rented dwellings, and the Council’s enforcement powers both under the Housing Act 2004 and other legislation. The role also involves a substantial element of court/tribunal work and advocacy.

We are looking for an organised and self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills who can analyse and assimilate complex information quickly and make decisions on legal issues both under pressure and with minimum supervision. You will have experience of dealing with all aspects of the preparation of cases and representation of clients in the criminal, civil or family courts or other tribunals
