Job Details

The City of London Law Society (CLLS) represents approximately 17,000 City solicitors through individual and corporate membership, including some of the largest international law firms in the world, advising a variety of clients, from multinational companies and financial institutions to government departments, often in relation to complex, multi-jurisdictional legal issues.

The CLLS through 17 specialist committees responds to a variety of government body consultations on issues of importance to City solicitors, the clients they represent and the City more generally. It is the voice of City solicitors on a range of legal and strategic issues.

The City firms have adapted well during the pandemic but must now deal with the uncertainties following Brexit and the continuing threat of the virus, providing domestic and international clients with the high quality support they need in a highly regulated and competitive environment.

The current Chief Executive, David Hobart, will be stepping down at the end of 2021, having spent 10 successful years in this role.

The CLLS is seeking a new Chief Executive to ensure that the CLLS maintains its leading role enabling the voice and expertise of City lawyers to be influential among the law makers, regulators, government and the media. The Chief Executive must be able to work with the membership and the specialist committees to anticipate future challenges and address present ones in a collaborative and efficient partnership, such that the CLLS performs as the ears, eyes and mouth of the City on the issues of the day.

There is no need for the candidate to be a solicitor, although solicitor applicants are of course welcome. Experience of working with lawyers would be advantageous or at the least an understanding of and an ability to operate effectively within the legal community. An understanding of the role of professional services in supporting their clients in the City would also be helpful.

In short, the CLLS is looking for a passionate, articulate and ambitious individual who understands the importance of working together and producing a focused and effective outcome.
