In this vital role, you will support the Public Solicitors Office with advisory and litigation support in relation to all aspects of civil litigation including family law, employment law, personal injury, clinical negligence, land & property, public and administrative law and be able to offer general advice in relation to a wide range of civil legal queries.
A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK. Following the opening of its international airport in October 2017, St Helena is better placed to develop both economically and socially.
You will represent clients in applications in the Magistrates’ and Supreme Court as well as the Court of Appeal, with representation throughout proceedings and preparation of all documents to final hearings. This role does not have any criminal advisory or criminal litigation work however advocacy experience is essential.
This role is suitable for an established UK Solicitor of at least 5 years PQE, with good experience of representation and advocacy in court proceedings as well as excellent negation and ADR skills. With good communication skills and a flexible approach, your working knowledge of computer systems will be supported by strong analytical skills.
In addition, you will use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena. As a Technical Co-Operation Officer, you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena. The Public Solicitors Office works with the Saint Helena Lay Advocates who you will support with technical expertise and help deliver training on a regular basis.
