The Role:

We have a unique opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Solicitor to lead our Commercial teams; with significant experience in either contracts and procurement law, commercial property or planning law you will join us during an exciting period of development as we continue to grow.  As an organisation with an annual budget of £2.3 billion, a major landowner and the legal advisor to the Hampshire Pension Fund with its £600 million property portfolio we are involved with various high profile strategic infrastructure projects and highly complex contract and procurement negotiations.

This is a great role that offers fantastic scope for the right individual to not only build on but generate new business, and as such you will have huge amounts of flexibility to create and lead the team you want!

This role offers the chance to do some incredible work, that is both highly valued and fundamental to the County Council's corporate priorities.  As a key member of the Legal Services Leadership Team this is a genuinely rare opportunity for an ambitious individual looking for the autonomy to put their stamp on a leading legal department.

Here at Hampshire Legal Services (HLS), we pride ourselves on the breadth and depth of difference we make, we enable the County Council to make positive changes and deliver more for residents. Our expertise has evolved from a traditional local authority legal support function into a modern, well-established in-house legal service that works with a wide range of public and private sector organisations. With around 90 qualified lawyers plus dedicated support personnel, HLS is one of the largest local authority legal teams in the country, working not only for the Council but a wide range of other organisations.

Leading three in-house team of qualified and non-qualified staff and working with external clients, you will provide strategic leadership for our Contracts and Procurement, Commercial Property and Planning teams, which deliver efficient, effective, value for money legal advice to the County Council and various external clients.

What we can offer you

Hampshire County Council is recognised nationally as one of the highest performing local authorities in the UK. A modern, forward-looking local authority, it offers a pleasant, supportive, and collaborative working environment, flexible working opportunities, an excellent work/life balance, a strong emphasis on training and development, professional challenge and variety and a central and well-connected Head Office location in the heart of the city of Winchester.

We can offer great flexible working options for this role; you do not have to be based locally to Winchester as we have invested heavily in various technologies to support ongoing working from home options. We envisage that this role can be carried out remotely but with some office-based working required to support business needs.
