You will be based in the Bradford City Centre in the Grade One Listed City Hall (and working at home) and have all the benefits of the cultural, retail and leisure facilities that Bradford has to offer as the 4th largest Metropolitan District in England and Wales.

The post holder will assist the Team Leader, Deputy Team Leader, Senior Lawyers and Lawyers in the provision of high quality professional legal services in the areas of Property Commercial and Development (Planning, Highways, Footpaths and Licensing Law for the Council). 

The focus of the post will be on Development Law matters.  The post holder will have authority to make day-to-day operational decisions, with considerable delegated powers only referring or bringing to the attention of the Team Leader or Deputy or Senior Lawyers and Lawyers complex and/or sensitive issues and matters. The post holder will contribute to and assist in the implementation of new policies and procedures in the office but is not expected to make strategic decisions.

The exercise of judgement in managing a caseload of routine planning and highways cases, under the overall guidance of the Team and Deputy Team Leader is required. Depending on experience the post holder is expected to work with minimum supervision only, seeking guidance on particularly complex or sensitive issues in undertaking all professional responsibilities and liaising with other Legal Officers and Lawyers and Senior Lawyers where appropriate.

The post holder will have contact with officers within the client departments, private practice solicitors and barristers, staff and managers of other agencies such as the Land Registry, Court Service, Planning Inspectorate, Police, In communities, NHS Trusts, members of the public and expert witnesses.
