Head of Planning & Commercial

LAW Absolute are working with a local authority based in East London who are seeking a Head of Commercial Lawyer. The role is being offered for an initial three-month period.

The role will require the successful candidate to head up the Planning, Property and Contracts Team. You will be required to have experience in at least two of the areas mentioned. It is essential that your experience covers planning law as one of your areas of specialism.

The successful Lawyer will be required to support the Divisional Director of Legal Services and you will have direct responsibility for managing the 3 Heads of Service. In total you will have 18/19 lawyers under your management either directly or indirectly.

You will be required to participate in strategic management meetings, lead in negotiations with internal and external clients, attend planning committees, lead on major planning projects and manage the Heads of Service and their teams.

It is essential you have previous experience advising senior advisors and councillors and have previously worked at this level. The client is looking for someone that has managed commercial departments and possesses the relevant legal experience to lead the commercial team.

Due to the urgent nature of the role our client is seeking candidates available on short notice. Candidates must have a current practising certificate. Local government experience is advantageous.
