We are seeking a motivated individual to lead our Legal Services Team to provide high quality, professional advice which is proactive and responsive to the Councils requirements.

This role will have responsibility for a personal, mixed caseload of varied complex and high risk matters within at least one of the following areas; Commercial/procurement, Planning/Property, Civil and Criminal Litigation/law.

Alongside this, the post holder will manage the Legal Service workload and team, ensuring legal advice is provided across the Council on a wide range of issues and cases. You will assist the Head of Governance with providing a clear leadership direction across Governance and Legal Services and also support the Council in ensuring compliance with governance arrangements. There will be a requirement to attend Full Council, Committees and any other meetings as required to advise on corporate, legal and probity issues and to promote best practice. You will be key in ensuring excellent liaison between legal services and the other services of the Council.

To apply for this role you must be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister or equivalent with appropriate experience post qualification, with knowledge of key legislation and issues relating to areas of expertise, having dealt with complex and contentious cases.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent leadership skills and strong personal and professional credibility.

You will need to have an approachable manner and be confident and engaging in providing advice and support to management at all levels, employees, elected members, town and parish councils, customers, suppliers and all other partners.

Along with advanced written skills, you will also demonstrate outstanding verbal communication skills, able to communicate complex information clearly and concisely.

People management is key including demonstrating a proactive approach to sharing learning and supporting development, with the ability to deliver results and successfully implement change.

You will manage the legal services budget so must have the ability to plan, manage and control this area. A flexible approach and excellent organisational skills are essential.
