About the job
As the Principal Solicitor you’ll lead, motivate and direct the Social Services-Childcare Team within Legal Services, be able to deputise for the Head of Legal Services and be a member of the Legal Services Management team.
You’ll provide operational and strategic vision, strong leadership and support as a key management role, and be accountable within Legal Services for the effective delivery a high quality legal service particularly in relation to child care law and related matters. You will be responsible for a team of highly experienced professional legal staff specialising in these areas of work.
You’ll assist with the provision of a comprehensive legal service to the Council, its Executive, its Committees and Sub‑Committees, and to Departments.
As a member of the Legal Services Management team you will contribute through the Legal Services Management Team to the overall management of the Division, and the achievement of its aims, objectives, statutory obligations and targets.
About you
An ability to communicate at all levels clearly and concisely, on standard and complex matters, both orally and in writing
You will be a qualified solicitor or barrister with over 8years post qualification experience and excellent knowledge of Social Services law and practice particularly in relation to child care law and related matters.
You will have strong advocacy skills with experience in Courts and Tribunals and a proven track record of advising and managing complex legal issues pertaining to children, including adoption and judicial review.
A thorough understanding of legislation & policy issues affecting local government practice,
