Head of NHS, Business and General Practice Advice

£47,447 per annum (pro-rated for part-time)

We are the voice of dentists and dental students in the UK.  We bring dentists together, support our members through advice and education, and represent their interests. This is a challenging and dynamic period for dentistry and the BDA is recruiting a Head of NHS and Business advice who can help support dentists through this period.

The Head of NHS and Business advice will provide, develop and manage the delivery of a range of high quality NHS, business and practice management advice services to BDA members.  The post can be full-time or part-time depending on the candidate and will be initially home based during lockdown restrictions but will eventually be based in central London.

The Team: The NHS and Business Advice team provides advice (mainly by telephone and email) to dentist members on a range of issues including the delivery of dental services in line with NHS and healthcare legislation; NHS contracting, commissioning and procurement; business matters and a wide range of other NHS and general practice issues pertinent to dentists practising and operating businesses within primary care dentistry.

Core Responsibilities: The post-holder will be responsible for the delivery of one to one advice to members, as well as the supervision of and day-to-day management of the team together with the Head of Operations, providing expert support and advice to the team.

The post-holder will also be responsible for providing and managing the delivery of talks, workshops and training for dentists and practice staff; and maintaining up-to-date written and other advice resources for members.

Key attributes

  • An individual with a strong background in law or with strong practical experience of working within a relevant NHS dental commissioning or business environment;
  • Current working knowledge of the legal, business and financial framework in which small businesses operate and the ability to use that knowledge to solve problems;
  • Robust experience in managing a team of people on a day to day basis as well as providing them with support and expert advice;
  • Knowledge of contract law, public law and NHS primary care commissioning and contracting requirements; and
  • Experience of and a willingness to undertake public speaking to large and small audiences.

Benefits include flexible working, cash back for various healthcare treatments, an employee assistance programme and subsidised gym membership.

All applications must be made on a standard BDA application form (CVs can be attached to this). A detailed job description and an application form can be downloaded from the 'About us' section on the BDA website at www.bda.org/about-the-bda/jobs

The closing date for applications is 12 noon Friday 13 August 2021. Please note that the BDA reserves the right to move the closing date forward once a sufficient number of suitable applications have been received. Candidates are therefore encouraged to complete and return their application at the earliest opportunity to avoid disappointment.

Interviews will be held via MS Teams and will be arranged in due course.

The BDA is an equal opportunities employer and an Investor in People.
