Salary: Up to £60k per annum dependent on experience
Office Location: Edinburgh (but role could be based elsewhere within the UK)
Closing Date: 6th October 2021
Hours of Work: 35 per week, Monday to Friday (home working available)

Purpose:
We have an exciting new opportunity for a Civil & Commercial Principal Associate to grow and shape our Civil team based in Edinburgh.  For the right candidate, this interesting and fulfilling role could lead to Partnership after 12 months, subject to achieving agreed objectives.

The technically able and commercially aware senior civil solicitor would also run a mixed caseload of complex and high value civil, motor prosecution and commercial litigated and non-litigated cases.  Experience in dealing with property disputes, property damage, contractual disputes landlord and tenant disputes and motor prosecution are necessary.

The successful candidate will provide effective legal advice to clients of the Company in relation to their claim, still being hands on whilst also mentoring and supervising less experienced staff.

Please note: Due to our response to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have successfully arranged for our staff to work remotely during this period. If the successful applicant joins before our offices have re-opened they would initially work from home on a full time basis and then, once our offices do re-open, work from home three days a week - you would therefore need the infrastructure in place to do so.  The other two days per week would be based in our Edinburgh city centre office.  For the right candidate we would consider full time working from home if they did not live within a reasonable distance to be able to commute, however attendance at court would still be required as necessary.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include taking full responsibility for cases and strategy to both manage your own caseload of pre-litigated & litigated files using our case management system, ensuring compliance with insurer clients’ service level agreements, whilst also mentoring and overseeing less experienced staff to assist in their development.

The role involves extensive communication with insurers, clients and third parties, using our in-house case management system to manage your caseload.  You will need to work in a proactive manner to settle cases in accordance with key performance indicators.

Skills/Competencies required:  

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of dealing with civil and commercial litigated and non-litigated cases with over six years PQE or equivalent, as well as supervising and developing a team in this area of law.  The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines and targets are all pre-requisites.

The successful candidate will be a team player and have excellent verbal and written communication skills, have strong organisational and time management skills and be computer literate. 

We are looking for a candidate with excellent client care skills, the ability to research and analyse legal issues, strong technical skills, specifically relating to civil and commercial matters and the ability to work in a busy fast-paced environment and working to SLAs.
