THE ROLE

Woodland Trust Legal Services is an in-house legal office of solicitors and legal executives that form part of the Woodland Trust’s Corporate Services team. We provide advice on a broad and diverse range of legal matters to a wide range of organisation stakeholders including our trustees, directors and officers of the Trust.

Our work is interesting and rewarding offering experience in a broad range of legal areas and involvement in key and significant projects. We have a large estate which coves England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. We have the support of significant corporate sponsors.

The Commercial Solicitor will have a broad and interesting caseload, advising on matters directly and indirectly relating to contractual, regulatory, intellectual property and commercial issues. The role will include drafting negotiating advising on and settling contractual documentation in relation to our funded projects and corporate sponsorship, settling grant terms and collaborations with partners to enable our work.  The work will be varied and will include advising on intellectual property issues, charity compliance, subsidiary entities, carbon and woodland creation and regulatory advice around data protection and issues such as state aid. This will include dealing with commercial participation agreements, collaboration agreements, procurement contracts, research contracts  and grants.

THE CANDIDATE

You’ll be an experienced qualified solicitor gained in house or in private practice, ideally with experience of the charity sector. With an understanding of the aims of the Woodland Trust, you’ll want to support us in achieving them through your role. You will be a lateral thinker who is also pragmatic a in your approach to problem solving with a keen eye for risk and solutions. With exceptional communication skills you will  be able to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You’ll thrive when working as part of a team and be a strong committed team player. 

Legal Services deals with cases of considerable financial and reputational impact, and therefore you’ll have experience of successfully dealing with matters which carry such significance and the flexibility and the ability to take on a variety of work with varying degrees of complexity advising stakeholders across the Trust.
