Commercial Lawyer
Salary: up to £80,000 p/a (full-time equivalent)
Hours: Part-time 2/3 days per week (open to discussion for hours/days per week)
Location: Home based within England and Wales
Reporting to: Legal Commercial Services Director
Employment: Fixed Term until March 2023 (with the potential to be extended in line with grant funding)

Job Purpose:
Reporting into the Legal Commercial Services Director you will support and lead on a range of commercial legal activities. You will be drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts, including framework agreements, on a national scale for blue light services. You will also be supporting the commercial team with reviewing tender documents and bid responses. You will be a trusted point of contact for the wider BlueLight Commercial team on legal and regulatory queries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide advice on legal and regulatory issues including governance aspects specific to blue light services, including: o
    • Data protection
    •  Public procurement
    • Corporate law matters
  • Developing and reviewing standard materials such as procurement templates, contract documents and advice notes
  • Collaborating with external lawyers on complex or high volume work
  • Support legal aspects of projects across BlueLight Commercial
  • Contract drafting and reviewing

Person Specification
Essential Criteria

  • Qualified to practise in England & Wales as a solicitor or barrister
  • Minimum of 8 years PQE
  • Significant experience in public procurement law
  • Demonstrable experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts including framework agreements
  • Able to translate complex legal issues to individuals with little or no legal background or training
  • Confident and able to lead or participate in challenging meetings with other lawyers and stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational skills, personal resilience and ability to multi-task, with good attention to detail
  • Good communication / literacy and interpersonal skills to engage confidently and credibly with stakeholders at all levels
  • Broad and strategic thinker
  • Creative problem solver
  • Able to translate strategic aims into practical objectives at an operational level
  • Strong interpersonal capabilities
  • Confidence to manage proactively and delegate upwards when appropriate
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

Vetting
The successful applicant will be subject to appropriate medical screening and vetting. As part of the vetting process, you must be able to satisfy the following:

  • Residency qualification (Meaning that you must have a 3 year 'checkable history' in the UK, ideally meaning you have been a resident in the UK for the last 3 years.
