Locum Childcare Lawyer – East of England – 3 months+ – Up to £55 per hour Umbrella

Venn Group’s specialist legal team are currently working with a reputable Local Authority in the East of England who are recruiting for a Locum Childcare Lawyer to join their department.

Ideally, the client would prefer this assignment to be worked on a full-time basis however candidates possessing part-time availability (3 days per week) with relevant experience may also be considered.

This role is offered for an initial period of 3 months, with the likelihood of extensions thereafter. This assignment will be worked on a fully remote basis for the foreseeable future.

This opportunity is suitable for a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with professional experience gained within Local Government.

The successful applicant may be expected to carry out various responsibilities including:

  • Providing Childcare Public Law advice and undertake all aspects of Care Proceedings work

  • Attending and advise at meetings across the County attended by professionals, particularly Legal Planning Meetings and PLO meetings and other similar meetings as directed by the Principal Lawyer and/or Assistant Chief Legal Officer

  • Conducting advocacy before the Family Courts and instruct counsel and the Council's in-house advocates where appropriate as well as preparation of cases

  • Ensuring that decisions made by the client department are lawful and accord with County Council policy

  • Maintaining an awareness of all relevant legislation, policy and regulations, investigate and advise on implications of changing legislation, case law and codes of practice and policy and provide briefing notes and training for colleagues and client officers.

  • The role is offering an attractive rate of up to £55 per hour umbrella dependent upon experience.
